Fans have rushed to wish legendary crooner Tom Jones all the best after the It’s Not Unusual hitmaker was forced to cancel his upcoming show due to illness.
The 85-year-old music icon was scheduled to take the stage in Bremen, Germany, recently but announced via social media that he has “contracted an upper respiratory infection” and needs time to recuperate.
“Unfortunately, I must postpone my show this evening, as I’ve contracted an upper respiratory infection that needs treatment and rest,” he wrote in a statement.
“I know this is really disappointing and will cause inconvenience to you all, and I’m very sorry about that.
“The show will now go ahead on Monday 28th July, so I look forward to seeing you then. All tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled date.
“Until then, thank you for your understanding. Love, Tom.”
The announcement prompted an outpouring of love and support from fans, many encouraging Jones to prioritise his health.
“Please get well and take care of yourself always! We all love you very much!!!” one wrote.
“I love you.. take care of yourself, everything will be fine.”
“Please take care of yourself. Rest and get through this moment well. I will pray for you. I wish you the best of health and many years of joy. The love of the many who love you works wonders. I love you infinitely…” another commented.
“Sending prayers and get well soon. Take care of yourself and rest that beautiful voice.”
While illness has temporarily taken the beloved singer off stage, fans can rest assured that Jones has no plans of stepping away from the spotlight permanently. In a previous interview with Metro, the Welsh legend made it clear that he’s not retiring anytime soon.
“The only way [I would retire] is if I couldn’t sing anymore,” he told the publication.
“If something went wrong with my vocal ability, I wouldn’t want to go on not in full strength. I wouldn’t like to shortchange an audience.”
Jones also revealed what keeps him going after decades of captivating audiences with his electrifying performances.
“The basic thing is I still love to sing. I love singing now as much as I ever did,” he revealed.
