TV chef and author Julie Goodwin has opened up on the joys of becoming a grandmother for the first time. Speaking on The Morning Show Tuesday, the 50-year-old said her middle son Tom and his partner recently welcomed a baby girl, named Delilah Marlene, into the world — and Julie (a mother of boys only) was no doubt over-the-moon to finally welcome a little girl!

“She is gorgeous,” Julie told hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies on Tuesday. “She turned three weeks old on Saturday, so she’s still tiny, and oh, holding her is just next level something, I don’t know.”

The season one winner of Masterchef continued: “So Tom and… his beautiful partner… had their gender reveal, and we found out all together it was going to be a girl. Tommy… hugged me so hard. He was crying, I was crying, he’s like ‘You’re getting your girl mum!’. She’s just a gift, a real gift, really special.”

“It is just such a special time, such [a] gift, you know, a miracle to hold this new little life.”

Julie first shared the happy news on social media on January 17, alongside a precious photo of herself and her husband Mick cradling the newborn baby. “A brand new life,” she captioned. “For all of us, I think. Welcome to the world baby Delilah Marlene.”

Fans at the time were quick to comment on the sweet post, with one writing: “Oh how precious and beautiful. Congratulations.” Another added: “Big congratulations.” While a third wrote: “How wonderful! Congrats. Enjoy every minute.”

Julie’s new addition to the family will no doubt bring the television star immense joy after a big, tough year, which saw her check into a mental health facility for five weeks at the start of last year. Speaking about her recovery, Julie told Larry and Kylie she’s feeling a lot better now. “I’m working hard and I’m doing all the things I have got to do,” she said. “There’s quite a lot of things in place like self-care stuff.

“There’s exercise, and therapy, and medication, and a lot of different things that have to be maintained for me to maintain my health.”
