Julie Bishop has become quite the fashionista since stepping away from politics more than two years ago. And on Monday, the former foreign affairs minister pulled out all the stops for an appearance at the Jordan Dalah show at Carriageworks in Sydney’s Eveleigh as part of Australian Fashion Week.

The 64-year-old proved once again that you can’t go wrong by keeping things simple, pairing navy-blue trousers that showed off her trim figure, with a see-through matching navy lace top with bell sleeves. She finished off the look with some heels and a pair of shimmering drop earrings, and wore her hair in an elegant up-style.

Julie’s look was the perfect example of elegant-yet-modern dressing for women over 60. Chances are you have a similar pair of navy or black trousers in your wardrobe. Plain pants are great because they can be worn on both formal and casual occasions, and can easily be dressed up with a more elaborate top or jewellery.

Before the festivities kicked off, Julie paid tribute to her good friend, style icon Carla Zampatti, who sadly passed away on April 3. Carla died at the age of 78, after a tragic fall down a staircase at the opening performance of Opera Australia’s La Traviata in Sydney. The mother-of-three and grandmother-of-nine spent a week at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital before her passing.

Carla Zampatti’s designs reflected the woman she was,” she said, The Australian reports. “A fashion designer par excellence, she influenced, indeed defined, Australian fashion for decades with her sophisticated-yet-practical style.”

Julie famously stepped away from politics in April 2018, and it looks like she has no plans of returning any time soon. She told The Daily Telegraph in September last year that she doesn’t miss her old job at all.

“I had 20 years as a member of parliament and five as foreign minister and that was a huge honour to represent Australia on the world stage,” she said at the time. “After 20 years, it is time to move on and I have. I am loving my life in the private sector as chancellor of the Australian National University.”

Julie is also on the advisory board of Afiniti, a software company focused on developing artificial intelligence for use in customer call centres, and is on the board at the international consultancy Palladium.
