Former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo has come to yet another milepost in his cancer battle, recently revealing he’s “made it through” his last chemotherapy treatment for 2022.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, December 8, the 34-year-old actor and singer shared the exciting update with fans, writing that he’s successfully completed another year of chemo and is looking forward to celebrating the upcoming holiday season.
“Another year of chemotherapy done, it wasn’t easy but I made it through,” he wrote.
“Can’t wait to have a few weeks break over Christmas & spend some well-earned time with my family.”
The update was accompanied by a photo of Ruffo receiving his treatment. Always one to stay positive, the actor was snapped smiling and giving a thumbs-up to the camera.
Many of Ruffo’s former Home and Away co-stars immediately flocked to his comment section to leave their fellow actor with words of encouragement and well-wishes.
“Hello darling. Stay well and see you soon” wrote Lynne McGranger.
“Well done for getting through this year!!!!! I hope you have a beautiful time with your fam over Christmas xxxx,” added Sarah Roberts.
“Good on you mate. Lots of love to you and your family this Christmas,” said Georgie Parker.
Ruffo’s post also drew in plenty of messages of support from his fans.
“If anyone deserves a break it’s you love, enjoy the holidays with @tahneesims and the fam fam. Love you xxx,” one user commented.
“Absolute machine you are! Look forward to a few more laughs and the mandatory sarcasm over Christmas.”
“#fuckcancer indeed enjoy some down time with loved ones… big love your way you strength & positive attitude is inspiring.”
As the year draws to a close and Ruffo bids farewell to treatment, at least for this year, Ruffo’s attention turns to the excitement of Christmas. Ruffo recently shared that he is especially excited about Christmas this year as he will finally be reunited with his older brother Michael for the first time in over three years.
“My brother lives in Ireland now so I haven’t seen him for three years and he’s coming home for Christmas and I honestly can’t wait to see him,” Ruffo said.
Besides his long-time girlfriend Tahnee Sims, Michael is Ruffo’s “closest” companion, admitting that navigating the pandemic and his second bout with cancer without Michael’s physical presence was difficult.
“We’re thick as thieves. Honestly, he is my hero. He is everything to me. And I cannot wait to see him. I don’t know how I’m going to react, I cannot wait, he’s everything,” Ruffo shared.
It’s gearing up to be an eventful festive season for the former Home and Away star after it was announced that Ruffo would be stepping in as Santa’s helper this year, teaming up with Starlight Children’s Foundation and Amazon Australia to bring smiles to children in a “similar position” to him as the holidays approach.
“It brings such joy to me. It’s a privilege to be able to know that you are helping them forget about everything that they’re going through,” Ruffo said.
“It’s about the children, and the joy that it brings to them is priceless. You can’t beat that; seeing them smile, seeing how happy they are.”
