Patti Newton has given a new health update on her husband Bert Newton, who had his leg amputated earlier this month in a life-saving operation, this time uploading a full-length pic of the television legend.

News broke just over two weeks ago that Bert had his leg amputated after contracting an infection in his toe. According to entertainment reporter Peter Ford, who broke the news live on 94.5FM radio on May 10, Bert, 82, had been suffering from an infected toe for four months before the emergency operation.

Almost three weeks post-surgery Bert appears to be in good spirits. In the picture, Bert, who’s siting in a wheelchair, can be seen smiling widely at the camera as his granddaughter Lola hugs him tightly.

Patti reassured friends and family that Bert is doing okay, but said he isn’t out of the woods just yet as he has a long journey ahead.

“I wanted to show you Bert’s doing ok, still flirting with the nurses and having a laugh,” Patti captioned the post. “Spending time with his darling Lola. And taking a day at a time. A long journey but he’s blessed with so much love.”

Fans of the beloved entertainer and media personality were quick to comment on the new pic and wish him a speedy recovery, with one writing, “What a trooper Bert is — but hasn’t he been that way for the past I don’t know how many years. Love to him and you Patti.” Another commented, “Looking good Bert, keep flirting with those nurses.” While a third wrote, “Good to see you sitting up Bert. Keep the nurses on their toes.”

It’s the second update Patti has provided fans in the last few weeks. Three days after his operation Patti took to Instagram to share a close-up snap of Bert recovering in bed. In the pic, Bert, who was dressed in a hospital gown, could be seen lying down as he held onto his nine-month-old grandson Alby.

Bert has been in and out of hospital the last few years. A month before Christmas, Patti uploaded a pic of the entertainer lying in a hospital bed. At the time, she reassured fans that he was “all good”.

Back in 2017, the TV personality was rushed to hospital after getting pneumonia. “Pneumonia is not a very nice thing,” Bert said at the time, explaining it was the third time he’d had it. The renowned former host of Good Morning Australia also underwent major heart surgery in 2012.
