Today host Allison Langdon has revealed details of the nasty injury she sustained while filming a stunt for the Channel 9 morning program earlier this month.

The 41-year-old injured her leg while ‘hydrofoiling’ during a pre-recorded segment on the Gold Coast on February 4. Ally, who’s been off the air since then, was rushed to hospital at the time and underwent knee surgery, however the extent of her injuries haven’t been revealed, until now.

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Thursday, Ally listed her gruesome injuries after her Today co-host Karl Stefanovic cheekily said she’d simply suffered a “bruised kneecap”, and it’s about time she got back to work. “Since when do you need a kneecap to broadcast?” Karl jokingly added.

Radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O didn’t muck around and jumped on a call with Ally. She told them she had broken her leg and dislocated her knee.

“I’ve done a right royal job on it,” she said.

Asked if she was still in hospital, Ally replied: “No, so I’ve been home for a week, which is nice, but it’s difficult because I’ve got the kids here.”

And despite enjoying the morning sleep-ins, Ally said that she was “desperate” to get back to work. “I actually miss Karl and the team,” she said. “A couple more weeks and then hopefully.”

Today fans were left shocked when the program released footage of Ally being pulled from the water following the accident earlier in the month. The following day, Karl told viewers Ally had been “badly” injured filming a water sports stunt for a segment that was due to appear on air that morning.

The incident involved a hydrofoil board – a surfboard with a hydrofoil attached to its base that lifts the board out of the water as soon as it gains speed. The new-age boards have been under fire in the past with renowned surfer Jamie Mitchell writing on his Facebook page: “Foils are dangerous … very dangerous, and do not belong in the surf zone with the masses and general public.”

Since the accident, Ally has updated fans on her condition via her Instagram account. The journalist shared an adorable photo of her two children cuddling up to her on the couch, with the caption: “So nice to get home to these two.”

The fan favourite was flooded with well wishes, with one writing: “Wishing you a speedy recovery and can’t wait to see you back on ‘Today’.” Another added: “Take care! All the best with your recovery.” While a third wrote: “Beautiful picture, hope you are doing well and you make a speedy recovery. We are all thinking of you.”
