A year after fans and those close to beloved Cal Wilson were left shocked by her untimely passing, her loving husband has shared a moving tribute, “focusing on all the good memories” of the much-loved comedian.

Taking to Instagram, Wilson’s husband, Chris Woods, reflected on life since he lost his wife and how, a year on from her passing, he is remembering “the little things” that made her special.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since you left us. Some days feel endless without you, while others rush by in a blur, reminding me just how quickly time passes. Not a moment goes by that I don’t miss you and feel a pang of sadness for all that you’ve missed,” he began.

“You’d be so proud of Mr. Bear; he’s blossomed into an amazing person, full of resilience and kindness. Your love and warmth are woven into him, things I worried might fade but have only grown stronger.

“Today, we’re focusing on all the good memories—the joy, laughter, and love you brought into our lives. We want to embrace the balance of a little sadness with a lot of joy, just as you would have wanted.

“As we slowly move forward towards the next chapter, your people have been our rock, showing us all the love and kindness that you embodied. We are so fortunate to have them by our side. The cats are as mischievous as ever, and their affectionate antics constantly remind us of all the joy you brought into our lives.

“Even in what turned out to be your darkest moments, you shone so brightly on the telly and we’re incredibly proud of all that you achieved on Bake Off this season. We’ll cherish your final appearance.

“Love surrounds us, and every day we throw the curtains wide, thinking of you. We’ll always remember the little things that made you, you.”

Fans were quick to praise Woods’ kind words with many sharing their own heartfelt tributes for Wilson.

“Lots of love to you all for today,” one wrote.

“This made me cry. I only ever knew Cal from tv, but what an amazing human she was just from my perspective. But, I can see in your words just how much she meant to you both. While the pain of loss will never fully subside, I’m sending my best to you both.”

“Thinking of Cal’s face when she said your names and I can’t think of a more beautiful, proud expression. Sending you all my love today, Chris and Digby,” commented another.

“If ever we wondered whether it’s possible for people’s spirits to remain on earth after they themselves have left us, Cal has answered that once and for all. She’s everywhere, and we carry her endless love and sense of wonder with us. Sending so much love.”

Wilson tragically passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, following a “short illness”. Token Artists management confirmed she died with her family by her side.

“We are devastated to share the news that Cal Wilson, the much-loved stand up comedian, writer and actor died today, surrounded by family and friends after a short illness at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. She was 53 years old,” the statement read.

“Cal’s generosity, talent and friendship have been constants in the Australian comedy scene for the last twenty years. Cal was loved by her family, friends, fans and peers and a huge hole has been torn in the heart of our community.”
