After having to cancel several live shows during the European leg of his world tour, rock icon Bruce Springsteen has provided fans with an update on his health.
The cancellation came about “due to vocal issues”, with an earlier Instagram post on his account stating that “further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next 10 days”.
His European stadium tour is expected to resume on June 12 in Madrid.
As fans eagerly await The Boss’ return to the stage, the man himself took to Instagram to update fans and assure them he would “be back” to give them a show to remember.
“Hey, this is Bruce Springsteen. I’m in Marseille,” he began.
“Unfortunately, I could not sing for you but we will be back to Marseille, to Prague and to Milan to give you the show of your life. That I promise you.
“In the meantime, I’d like to thank our Irish fans, our British fans, and our fans in Wales for giving us a series of shows that were deeply memorable and we just had great times there.
“We’ll be back, coming back to Madrid and Barcelona where we plan to rock you into the ground! Alright, be seeing you soon. Bye-bye.”
After Springsteen shared his update, fans were quick to send messages of support and well-wishes, with many expressing their hopes for his speedy recovery.
“Feel better buddy,” one fan wrote.
“Get those vocals rested, feel better!”
“Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery,” commented another.
“Rest up Bruce.Do as the doctors tell you.Take the meds.Drink plenty of fluids.Wrap up warm.. Come back Stronger than ever.”
It’s not the first time Springsteen has been forced to cancel his live performances due to health issues, in 2003 the Dancing in the Dark hitmaker had to cancel all his remaining shows for the remainder of the year.
The 74-year-old icon had disclosed his health concerns in a message posted on his official website and social media channels at the time, revealing that he and The E Street Band had made the decision to postpone all performances for September 2003 as Springsteen received treatment for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease.
“Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” he told fans at the time.
“First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our U.S. shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”
Although the initial delay was intended to be brief, the shows faced an extended hiatus with Springsteen later announcing he would not be returning to the stage with the E Street Band until 2024.
“Bruce Springsteen has continued to recover steadily from peptic ulcer disease over the past few weeks and will continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor’s advice,” the update read.
“With this in mind, and out of an abundance of caution, all remaining 2023 tour dates for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will be postponed until 2024.
“Rescheduled dates for each of the 2023 shows, including those postponed earlier this month, will be announced next week, all taking place at their originally scheduled venues.
“When the new 2024 dates are announced, those unable to attend on the new date who purchased their tickets through official ticketing companies have 30 days to request a refund. All tickets for postponed performances will remain valid for the newly announced dates.”
As Springsteen continues his recovery, fans no doubt wait with bated breath for his triumphant return to the stage.
