In addition to being a celebrated former athlete and previously named Australian of the Year, Dylan Alcott plans to add yet another string to his bow as he takes on the role of author.

Following an impressive professional tennis career in which Alcott achieved a Golden Slam, the beloved 33-year-old has now put pen to paper to create a book series for children to “normalise and celebrate disability”.

“Growing up with a disability, I never saw people like me on screens, on television and especially in books,” Alcott said of his latest endeavour.

“We’d love kids to be entertained and to see and relate to many of the everyday thoughts, feelings and experiences that shape their lives.

“In addition, through strong character development, we hope to normalise and celebrate disability, difference and inclusion.”

Alcott’s book tells the story of 12-year-old Dylan as he starts high school and deals with old and new friendships, a strict teacher named Grumps, and an exciting talent show.

Enthusiastic fans couldn’t contain their excitement following news of the beloved former athlete’s latest venture, with many wondering if there is anything he can’t do.

“You legend,” one fan wrote.

“This is awesome mate!”

“Just brilliant mate!” another wrote.

“Is there anything he can’t do? Congrats champ.”

“Well done!! I’m so proud of you.”

Alcott’s latest venture follows an impressive career on the tennis court. At the young age of 16, Alcott showed a talent for tennis, ranking among the top five juniors in the world.

He won the New Zealand Open in 2014 and in July of the same year he defeated world number three Andy Lapthorne in the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championship final in Nottingham to win his first Super Series crown.

He finished 2015 ranked number one after winning eight titles which included two grand slam titles.

Alcott made history in 2021, becoming the third professional tennis player to achieve a Golden Slam after securing wins in the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, the US Open and the singles gold medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
