Former Channel Seven star Andrew O’Keefe is urgently fighting for bail at the NSW Supreme Court. 

The former The Chase TV host has now spent 13 nights in custody, with 12 of those in an isolation cell in the high-security Metropolitan Remand Centre in Sydney’s Silverwater Prison. 

Sources close to the ex-game show host told The Australian they fear for his safety as he is in need of “urgent mental health treatment”, which is not offered inside a prison.

The 50-year-old also has a history of being in and out of both rehabilitation centres and psychiatric hospitals.

Just last week, the ABC reported that O’Keefe is facing more charges after police found 1.5 grams of cannabis on him the day of the alleged assault.

His lawyers are currently working overtime to get him transferred from prison to a health care facility, planning on bringing him before the NSW Supreme Court. 

The request for his bail comes after police indicated on Friday, February 4, they plan to file a detention application against O’Keefe for allegedly breaking an apprehended violence order, in a bid to keep him behind bars. 

O’Keefe is currently serving 14 days in protective quarantine inside prison after the former chair of The White Ribbon Foundation was charged for allegedly punching, choking and kicking a woman to the ground inside his Sydney apartment.

The former TV host was arrested almost two weeks ago, video from the night of the arrest shows O’Keefe screaming and banging inside a paddy wagon.

Angry and agitated, O’keefe was heard yelling “I’m a victim of crime” as he was taken to the Sydney Police Centre to spend the remainder of the night behind bars. 

The next day, he was refused bail and taken to prison. 

This also would not be the first time the dumped Channel Seven star is facing assault charges. In February 2021, police were called to his unit in Randwick, Sydney, after reports a woman had been attacked.

If O’Keefe is denied bail on Friday, February 11, he will then face the NSW Supreme Court on Monday, February 14, if his detention application is granted.
