The first full moon of 2025 is set to bring with it emotional overload as moody Cancer battles it out with the calling for balance in the New Year.

Being the first lunar event of the year, the ‘Wolf Moon’ (January 14th), sets the tone for the calendar year – and 2025 may be stressful!

This full moon has more psychological significance than the rest of the year’s full moons, and because it occurs in January it can be a template for our expectations.

But beware – all the social and transpersonal planets are changing signs this year (with the exception of Pluto which already moved into Aquarius in 2024) and individuals may be in conflict inside themselves.

Being in star sign Cancer this month, the full moon will bring out already overloaded emotions, and it’s going to be a frustrating time with more people upset than usual.

The Cancerian moon is all about subconscious emotions arising and people wearing their heart on their sleeve.

Adding to the emotional mix, is the fact that 12 planets are also in retrograde this year (when they appear to be going backwards) and they are all in fire and air signs.

There will be a lot of ideas and inspiration in 2025 but 12 retrogrades are holding the energy within – people are going to be in internal conflict within themselves.

But on the productive side, this Wolf Moon also offers a chance to rethink how you can better manage your relationships and take care of your home and family.

It’s a good time to manage your stress levels because you may experience a lack of sleep, and there could be make or break situations in relationships and general life. If you’re not financially secure don’t take any risks.

Cancer is a cardinal water sign also known for its caring, homebody characteristics in astrology.

Cancer is all about home, family, and emotions, so this Wolf Moon is encouraging people to tap into their feelings and create a safe space for themselves.

While all star signs will be affected, those that will feel the moon’s influence more strongly will be other cardinal signs Aries, Libra and Capricorn, and water signs Scorpio and Pisces.

The Wolf Moon is also aligning with Mars, the planet of action, energy, and desire, so things might feel uneasy at home or at work, especially since Mars is in retrograde in Cancer until February 23rd.

In namesake the Wolf Moon’s origins lie in colonial American and European traditions as wolves were heard howling more during January, signalling the scarcity of food in the dead of winter.

This full moon gives birth to new beginnings, new direction and new goals. The Wolf Moon will also challenge us to let go of fears and also to make friends with our animalistic instincts.

Whatever you start off with you can change but start off on a positive foundation. If you start on faulty foundations, they will be hard to fix, but it’s not impossible.

Cancerian expectations might not be easy because they have to be grounded in practical reality and have to accept and feel the deep feelings of Cancer.

Don’t be afraid to look at your own feelings and examine your dreams and inner animal instincts.

The Wolf Moon will be reaching its peak on Tuesday, January 14th at 9:26am AEST.
