If you have cleaned your bathroom only to find black mould stuck in the silicone grout permanently, you’ll know how frustrating that is. No amount of scrubbing would remove it completely.

Black mould is an undesirable fungus that results from an excessive build-up of moisture. You’re most likely to find it lurking in places with high levels of humidity and condensation like the kitchen and the bathroom, where spores congregate in dark crevices and thrive in leaky areas.

For non-silicone grouts, a good brushing with some Jif and an old toothbrush will do the trick removing the mould itself and the stain.

For silicon grouts, brushing would only remove the surface mould but not the stain that the mould has left in the grout itself. Luckily, there is a better way to get rid of that. All you need is some cotton balls and bleach.

Instructions:

  1. Using gloves to protect your hands, simply soak one or more cotton balls with pure 100% bleach.
  2. Cover the area with the black mould in the soaked cotton balls and leave it in the spot where the mould is.
  3. Leave the room and come back to check after 15 minutes.

The black mould will be gone.

If the mould area is large or long, you can also use a soaked tissue by rolling it into a string shape to cover the affected area.

Before attempting black mould removal yourself, please remember to take a few safety precautions:

1. Make sure the room is well ventilated by opening doors and windows.
2. Wear gloves if your hands are sensitive to bleach.

We hope this trick will help you achieve that squeaky clean result.
