Nicole Kidman shines in retro gold at Cannes

One minute Nicole was looking fab in casual sportswear, watching hubby Keith Urban sing the American national anthem at the Nashville Predators’ playoff game earlier this week, next she was going full glamour. It is all thanks to three movies featuring the Australian star to premiere at Cannes Film Festival, plus one special television show screening.

The 49-year-old made her first red carpet appearance at this year’ event yesterday, for the first of her movies to premiere, How to Talk to Girls at Parties. Showing retro golden glamour her dress had a plunging neckline, with netting ruffles adding to the vintage feel.

Co-star Elle Fanning also went for vintage glamour style with an even more plunging neckline.

In How to Talk to Girls at Parties Nicole plays a fashion expert, and her many fashionable appearances on the red carpet are set to attract as much interest as the movies themselves at the event. She also plays a surgeons wife in The Killing of the Sacred Deer, with Colin Farrell, and takes on a historical look in The Beguiled.  Nicole also features in the special screening of Top Of the Lake: China Girl, a Jane Campion TV drama in its second season.

Talking to Sydney Morning Herald ahead of the event she said she was trying to ignore all the fuss. “I suppose I don’t feel like I have four projects there,” she says to SMH. “I have a small role in John Cameron Mitchell’s film and then Jane Campion’s with a supporting role. In some ways, I just feel honoured to be a part of the festival. The characters I’ve got to play recently are so rich and deep. I have been able to mine many different areas and stretch as an actor and that has been really exciting.”

Cannes Film Festival opened on May 13 and runs until the end of May.
