She’s joining her husband President Donald Trump on his state visit to the UK, and the First Lady has channeled the late Princess Diana in a retro white ensemble as she arrived at Buckingham Palace on Monday afternoon.
Melania wore a custom Dolce and Gabbana white suit, which featured a contrasting navy blue collar and coordinating waist belt. She added a wide-brimmed hat by Hervé Pierre which also had a pop of colour. Melania finished the look with a pair of matching heels by Manolo Blahnik.
Fans were quick to point out similarities between Melania’s suit and several looks worn by Diana, including several white suits worn to public engagements throughout the 1980s and early ’90s.
The Queen greeted the US President and Melania at Buckingham Palace, where she held a private lunch for them. Following a private lunch, the Queen and other members of the royal family gave their guests a tour of Westminster Abbey.
The couple then met Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall for tea.
The Queen is tonight hosting a special banquet for the US President and his wife at Buckingham Palace.
The Queen has previously hosted two state visits from U.S. presidents: President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, made a state visit to the UK in 2003, and Barack and Michelle Obama made a state visit to the UK in 2011.
Meanwhile, it comes after Melania described having tea with Queen Elizabeth II as an “honour”, after she and the President were invited to spend the afternoon at Windsor Castle last year.
President Trump and his wife had an audience with the 92-year-old monarch at her favourite castle during their four-day tour of the UK, following a meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May in July last year.
Melania ditched her usual glamorous style, perhaps aware that the Queen does not approve of revealing clothing, for a more demure look as she donned a sophisticated cream jacket and matching pencil skirt for the royal occasion.
