When it comes to fashion, Julie Bishop rarely puts a foot wrong, but her latest look may just be one of the 64-year-old’s best yet – and, what’s better is that it was all for a good cause.
The former foreign affairs minister uploaded a series of incredible photographs to Instagram on Wednesday night, which showed Julie posing up a storm atop a buoy off the coast of Perth’s famous Cottesloe Beach. And one of the photos showed her alongside a team of lifesavers, who were most likely roped in to help the ex-lawyer mount the floating device.
“Frocking up for #Frocktober2020 raising funds for ovarian cancer research @ocrf,” she wrote. “The Pink Frock designed @jaimiesortino will be auctioned online details to follow.”

Fans of the former pollie couldn’t get enough of the glamorous photos, with one writing: “She just keeps getting more and more fabulous.” Another commented: “Didn’t think it was possible to love her more but here we are.”
While others couldn’t believe how she’d managed to get up onto the buoy – and keep the show-stopping gown bone dry. One person wrote: “How the hell did you climb up in that fabulous dress?!!”
Another said: “You getting up there is no surprise, but the dress is practically dry!” To which Julie replied: “It wasn’t easy – rubber ducky, rope and a shove!”
It comes just one week after Bishop opened up to The Daily Telegraph about the struggle of being apart from her long-term partner David Panton, who lives in Sydney, since lockdown came into effect earlier this year.
“We FaceTime,” she said. “It isn’t great but it is all you can do because he can’t get in here [WA] and I can’t go there without having to get an exemption. It is very difficult but I know a lot of families have been separated in this way, it is challenging.”
Julie who famously stepped away from politics in 2018, also revealed that she doesn’t miss her old job at all, telling the publication: “I had 20 years as a member of parliament and five as foreign Minister and that was a huge honour to represent Australia on the world stage. After 20 years it is time to move on and I have. I am loving my life in the private sector as Chancellor of the Australian National University.”
