Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have joined forces on the Oscars red carpet, battling it out in the style stakes with some incredible outfits.

Everyone from Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep and Jane Fonda, to Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman and Laura Dern stunned in front of the cameras, as they prepared to watch the winners take to the stage in the glitzy ceremony.

Mirren, 72, stunned in a blue floor-length dress, showing off her figure as she posed for photos alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

Wearing a huge silver and blue diamond necklace and matching earrings, she shone out from the crowd and looked completely relaxed as she laughed with fans and photographers. Wearing her hair loose with a sweeping fringe, she once again defied the years for the annual bash.

Elsewhere, her friend and fellow actress Meryl Streep made a dramatic entrance as lady in red, wearing a vibrant ball gown to match the famous carpet. Waving to her loyal fans, the 68-year-old star looked natural, keeping her glasses on for the appearance with minimal make-up.

The legendary actress was joined by a glowing Jane Fonda, who upped the style stakes in a tight white floor-length ball gown. Showing off her slim waist, the star, 80, looked years younger with her curled hair swept back from her face.

Fans were given a sneak peek at the timeless dress on Fonda’s Instagram, just hours before she arrived, with the photo showing her slowly descending some stairs following her incredible makeover. She wrote: “OK off I go! Here’s a sneak peak! #Oscars #Oscars2018.”

Nicole Kidman did not disappoint, as she opted for a very eye-catching deep blue dress with a giant bow on the front. Showing off her slim waist, the actress, 50, stole the show with a daring thigh-split up one leg.

Adding to the striking look, she wore deep red lipstick and diamond earrings, flashing her winning smile as she prepared for the sit-down party inside.

Matching Fonda in white was Big Little Lies star Laura Dern, 51, who risked all with a plunging neckline and figure-hugging white gown. The stunning actress had her hair style perfectly in loose curls, and accessorised with a silver clutch bag.

The stars have chosen not to follow an all-black theme this year, following a series of awards shows in 2018 which saw celebrities dress in darker shades to honour the ‘Time’s Up’ campaign against sexual harassment. However, Dern is a huge supporter of the cause, and regularly shares inspiring posts on social media calling for more people to share their stories and support the campaign.

Meanwhile, hoping to win the Best Actress award tonight, Aussie favourite Margot Robbie followed the theme perfectly in her own strapless cream-white gown. With silver tinsel-style straps flowing over each arm, she dazzled on the red carpet.

Robbie, 27, has received rave reviews for her role in I,Tonya, and she’ll be up against strong contenders Frances McDormand and Saoirse Ronan in the huge category. Either way, she’ll get her time in the spotlight, as she’s been confirmed to present an award too.

Rita Moreno proved a big hit on the red carpet, as she recycled her dress from the 1962 Oscars, when she took home the gong for Best Supporting Actress for her role in West Side Story.

One fan commented on Twitter: “Rita moreno did THAT, a legend!!” While another added: “Rita Moreno wearing the same dress she wore to the ‘62 #oscars just proves she honestly IS Lydia from #OneDayAtATime. I love her so much.”

The style didn’t stop on the red carpet, as Sir Elton John hosted his annual Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Awards Viewing Party alongside husband David Furnish.

The pair posed for photos together outside, with the singer embracing his usual vibrant style in a red jacket and white and pink frilled shirt. His partner looked over the moon to support him, and opted for a black patterned suit jacket for the bash.

It was recently claimed Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway will return to this year’s ceremony to present ‘Best Picture’ again, after they were caught up in one of the biggest errors in Oscars history last year.

The pair made history at last year’s Academy Awards as they announced La La Land as the winner instead of Moonlight, after being handed the wrong envelope. Realising the mistake too late, La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz then had to awkwardly hand over the award on stage – in front of the shocked crowd.

Host Jimmy Kimmel also came back onto the stage to help sort out the confusion, saying it was a “really unfortunate” mistake, before Beatty explained that the envelope he opened said ‘Emma Stone, La La Land’ – Stone won Best Actress for her role in the film – and that he suspected he had the wrong envelope.
