Britain’s best dressed 2018: Unsuspecting royal makes the cut

Britain’s premier high society magazine Tatler has released its annual Best Dressed list and once again the royal family has dominated the role call of high-flying fashionistas.

While it’s no surprise the three duchesses Kate, Meghan and Camilla all made the cut, it seems they now have competition from one very unsuspecting royal: Prince George. The five-year-old was crowned one of Britain’s best dressed thanks to his timeless “Christopher Robin chic” style and tailored wardrobe of shorts, long socks and collared shirts.

His inclusion on the list delighted royalists the world over and will no doubt send mums running to department stores to snap up similar styles for their own tots.

George’s great-granny, the Queen, also made the star-studded list. The Queen was the oldest person to make the cut and was appropriately coined “the ultimate power dresser” thanks to her penchant for sporting bold colours and sensible court shoes, purses and hats.

Following her wedding to Prince Harry in May, Meghan also made the list, and was credited with “redefining modern royal style”. “Prince Harry’s California bride blew us away with her Givenchy wedding dress and has redefined modern royal style with every subsequent appearance,” the publication said, The Telegraph reports.

Catherine has been lauded for recycling her favourite outfits on several occasions, as well as choosing from both high street and high-end labels. Meanwhile, Camilla gives “millinery a good name,” according to the magazine, thanks to her exquisite hat choices.

The royals weren’t the only British trend setters to make the cut. Amal Clooney and Jerry Hall were among the celebrities to make the top 30 ranking. The human rights lawyer’s eclectic style was described as “polished” but with a “playfulness”.

Some names notably absent from the list include Helen Mirren, who stunned in a number of daring red carpet looks this year, and Sarah Ferguson, who was widely praised for her figure-hugging suit worn at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May.

Who do you think is the best dressed on the list? Who’s your style inspiration or do you march to the beat of your own drum these days?
