Meghan Markle is set to marry Prince Harry in a matter of weeks — and it’s now been revealed who will walk the bride-to-be down the aisle.
Meghan’s father will walk her down the aisle when she weds Prince Harry, Kensington Palace has confirmed. It ends months of speculation in the lead-up to the royal wedding over Thomas Markle’s involvement in the day.
The palace also confirmed Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, will stay with her daughter the night before the wedding and travel with hey by car to St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
A statement from Kensington Palace said Harry and Meghan were “very much looking forward to welcoming Ms Markle’s parents to Windsor for the wedding”.
“Both of the bride’s parents will have important roles in the wedding,” the statement read. “Ms. Markle is delighted to have her parents by her side on this important and happy occasion.”
In a break of tradition, the palace revealed the nuptials would be “guided by tradition” but would include touches that “reflects the personalities” of Prince Harry and his bride-to-be.
Parents of the soon-to-be royal, will fly into the UK the week before the wedding to meet their daughter’s new groom, along with the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh and senior members of the royal family.
It will be the first time Prince Harry has met his new father-in-law.
The palace has also revealed that the prince wanted to involve his mother, Princess Diana’s, family in the wedding. All three of her siblings will attend, and Lady Jane Fellowes, Diana’s sister, will give the reading.
“Prince Harry and Ms Markle both feel honoured that Lady Jane will be representing her family and helping to celebrate the memory of the late Princess on the wedding day,” the palace said.
Kensington Palace did not comment on whether other members of Meghan’s family would attend, however this week, her angry and estranged half-brother Thomas Markle Jr made a bitter attempt to end the romance, by calling on Harry to call off the May 19 nuptials in a scathing open letter – insisting it’s “not too late”.
The palace also revealed, Harry and his best man, Prince William, will arrive on foot for the nuptials that are expected to be watched by millions of people around the world.
Harry and Meghan are just weeks away from tying the knot and have already revealed several details about their wedding. The couple announced last month they won’t be expecting a gift, instead the couple is asking for donations to a number of their favourite charities.
The pair have also ditched some of the more traditional royal choices, including their pick for a wedding cake, choosing a lemon elderflower cake that will “incorporate the bright flavours of spring”.
The couple will say “I do” in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19.
