It took just one line from Lisa Wilkinson to remind us all how great the 1970s were – a time when outrageously thin eyebrows were all the rage and ‘selfies’ didn’t exist.

Taking to social media on Thursday, the 58-year-old shared a stunning ’70s throwback. In the snap, The Project host is sporting iconic pencil-thin eyebrows and a Hawaiian print top.

She wrote: “Jeez I loved a skinny brow back in the 70s, hey? And that Hawaiian print top was my absolute fave!

“This is me aged 17 on a family holiday to the Gold Coast… one of the very few shots I have from that time. I seem to remember I was very good at hiding from the cameras back then. And there was certainly no such thing as a ‘selfie’.”

The throwback seemed to ring true with many readers who also shared their own memories from the ’70s.

“It was a Friday night ritual with your best friend tweezers in hand… we plucked the crap out of them for perfection and now they need to be full and textured!” one fan wrote.

Another added: “I also had those eyebrows, they took forever to get thicker!! I also had a Hawaiian top and a wrap around skirt to match!!” And a third wrote: “What a fab photo! 70’s were the best.”

It comes after the September cover of British Vogue sent shivers down millions of spines thanks to its colourful photo of American pop singer Rihanna rocking some outrageously thin brows.

And it’s fair to say that for years now women have been trying to forget the horror of the ’70s, when women the world over tweezed their eyebrows to within an inch of their life.

Some poor brows were so heavily plucked they never recovered, may they rest in peace and the women who’s faces they adorned have spent years drawing on fake brows, or resorting to painful procedures such as eyebrow tattoos, in an attempt to regain their luscious glory.

Unfortunately, super-thin eyebrows aren’t the only nightmarish trend to make a comeback in recent years. The no-shaving hippy vibes of the ’70s are also reportedly proving popular among many young women, who’ve ditched the razor and let their underarm hair fly free.

Do you remember sporting super-thin brows like this? What’s your favourite memory from the ’70s?
