Your best hands: Natural ways to make your hands look younger

Share:

Do you have age spots, wrinkles or even just dryness on your hands? We have some excellent ways to naturally restore your hands and make them look more youthful.

Which will you try?

Dark spots

Use orange and apple cider vinegar – the power of the citrus in the orange helps to light dark spots. Mix one teaspoon of orange juice with two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and then use a clean cotton ball to put this mixture on your age spots before you go to bed.

Sun spots

Olive oil has a plethora of uses with one being a great skin nourisher. It is also high in vitamin E, which also gets rid of sun spots. Simply apply to the area once a day and rub in like you would moisturiser.

Peeling hands

Coconut oil contains fatty acids that help strengthen dry and flaky skin. While the main benefit of coconut oil is its powerful moisturising quality, it also contains properties that fight fungal and bacterial infections. Apply it directly on the affected skin for 10 minutes.

Thin skin

If the backs of your hands are starting to get a crumpled look reminiscent of gift bag stuffing, use a prescription retinoid cream to improve texture and jumpstart the growth of thickening collagen, says Sarnoff. She recommends Renova ($100) or Retin-A ($120), which are pricey, but more effective than OTC retinols, she says. And, since they’re prescription-only, your dermatologist will explain how and when to use them so you get the benefits without common retinoid drawbacks like skin irritation.

Prominent veins

The only way to get rid of big veins on your hands for good is to invest in vein removal however you can instantly cover dark veins with special concealers. For the natural version, rub on some witch hazel every morning – it’s a natural astringent which will shrink or constrict body tissues.

Stained nails

If the discolouration persists or is accompanied by pain, it’s likely a fungal infection so check with your doctor. If you see your doc and it turns out the problem isn’t fungal, it may be a harmless side effect of things like medication or wearing dark polish. To remove stains, soak with a lemon wedge every day until gone. Oh and put on a base coat before you reapply nail polish!

Brittle nails
Water or chemical exposure, seasonal weather changes, and even genetics, can all lead to brittle nails. Taking a 2.5 mg dose of the B vitamin biotin improves nail strength and reduces brittleness after six to nine months, says a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.
