August’s Full Moon in Pisces arrives on Friday, August 28, ushering in a powerful period of emotional release, revelations and long-standing issues reaching a turning point.

This is a very significant Full Moon – because a lunar eclipse is a culmination.

There may be an issue that’s been humming away for a while, one you’ve been managing or ignoring, but under a lunar eclipse it can finally surface, and you’ll know where you stand.

The Full Moon’s placement in Pisces makes this an especially emotional and intuitive period.

Pisces is about allowing emotions to flow rather than pushing them down.

People are likely to wear their heart on their sleeve more than usual, and there are pros and cons to that. It can be good in a personal relationship, but not necessarily the best idea at work.

The Full Moon also arrives during the later stages of a Virgo-Pisces eclipse cycle that has been unfolding since September 2024, giving this period a strong sense of culmination and change.

Because we’re quite late in this eclipse cycle, there can be a real sense of something needing to be resolved.

It can feel like a dam breaking, like all the emotion comes rushing out at once. But ultimately, it’s about letting go of the past.

The Pisces influence could also heighten intuition, with people more likely to have strong feelings or sudden realisations about situations they’ve been struggling to understand.

Pisces can carry a psychic kind of energy.

You may get a strong feeling about something before you have all the facts. Listen to your intuition but give yourself time to work out what it’s telling you rather than immediately acting on it.

Adding to the intensity is an alignment involving the Sun, Mercury and Uranus, which could bring sudden developments, unexpected news and revelations.

There could be some surprising and volatile developments, particularly around communication, technology and information.

It’s a bit of a mishmash of positives and negatives, so the best thing you can do is stay flexible.

It isn’t all heavy going, however.

Mars forms a supportive aspect to the Moon, bringing energy and confidence to act on insights once they become clear.

It’s fabulous for feeling more energetic.

It’s great for carrying out your intuition, setting goals and actually going out and doing something about them.

Relationships may also need some fine-tuning, with Venus creating a mildly challenging influence.

You may want to do one thing, and your partner wants to do another.

It’s not huge conflict. It’s more about recognising that you both have needs and being willing to compromise.

The influence of a lunar eclipse can extend beyond the day itself. It can begin before the eclipse and continue afterwards, and last for months.

The mutable signs – Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius – are expected to feel this Full Moon most strongly as they sit directly on its axis.

For these signs in particular, this could be a period of emotional turning points, changing circumstances and important realisations about what needs to stay and what needs to go.

My advice is to let necessary endings happen rather than fighting them.

If something needs to end, let it end.

You have to go along with it. It was going to happen anyway, and sometimes you have to let go of the past before you can move forward.

August’s Full Moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon, a traditional North American name linked to the large freshwater fish historically caught in the Great Lakes at this time of year.

The Full Moon reaches its peak at 2.18pm AEST on Friday, August 28. The lunar eclipse itself is not visible from mainland Australia because the main eclipse occurs while the Moon is below the horizon.

August Full Moon horoscopes

Aries (March 21 to April 19): This Full Moon Lunar Eclipse brings a powerful ending-and-beginning moment in the quiet parts of your life: sleep, healing, private grief and the unseen emotional weight you’ve carried for too long. If you’ve been running on fumes, this is where your body and spirit insist on rest. A secret, a realisation or a deep feeling may surface so it can finally be released. You’re being pulled towards new people and a different sense of belonging. The right community can help change your life now. Home and family matters strengthen you also, yet sudden news or shifting plans can rattle your focus. Choose calm over chaos to protect yourself and your vision of life to come.

Taurus (April 20 to May 20): It’s all about friendships, networks and the long-range dream you’ve been building. You may realise that certain people might be draining, distracting or keeping you small. If someone fades out of view or a group changes shape, it’s not random. It’s clearing space for the people who truly align with who you are becoming. Simultaneously, your public direction is evolving. You could feel called to step up, change career or commit to a path that feels more meaningful. Learning and day-to-day activities bring motivation, but finances or self-worth can feel unpredictable. Keep choices simple: invest your time and energy where you feel respected, supported and valued.

Gemini (May 21 to June 20): A major moment around your role in the world is coming up. It’s about recognition, direction and responsibilities that define your life. Something may reach a peak – an achievement, a chapter at work or maybe a goal you’ve been chasing. You could be asked to choose a path that feels more purposeful. Your bigger vision is shifting too: what you believe in, where you’re headed. Decide which opportunities are worth your commitment. Money and practical security motivate bold action now, but your identity is also changing quickly. You could change your appearance, priorities or even your confidence. Expect the unexpected and leave space to change your mind.

Cancer (June 21 to July 22): Your direction is shifting and the world is about to get suddenly bigger for you. You may outgrow an old worldview, a plan that no longer fits, or a commitment that’s been kept alive by guilt rather than truth. A trip, course, teacher or meaningful conversation could arrive right on time and remind you that life is bigger than your current worries. Something deeper is also changing around trust, shared support and what you’re ready to lean on (or stop leaning on). You’ll feel bolder and more emotionally direct so express what you really need. However, your energy might also spike and dip, so prioritise rest and don’t ignore when you need solitude.

Leo (July 23 to August 22): Clarity comes around emotional entanglements: what you share, what you owe, what you fear and what you’re ready to release. You could reach a breakthrough about trust, jealousy, secrecy or a financial tie that needs to be cleaner. If something feels heavy, it’s a sign it needs truth, boundaries or a fresh agreement. Your relationships are also steering you toward the future. A partner, client, or close ally may reveal where things are headed and what kind of commitment is actually on offer. Friends and community can surprise you with new invitations and sudden changes. Make space for the unexpected, but don’t sacrifice your peace to keep things “nice.”

Virgo (August 23 to September 22): A relationship may deepen, shift shape or reach a defining moment where you can’t ignore what’s real anymore. If you’ve been over-functioning or quietly compromising, you’ll feel a strong pull to rebalance things so it’s truly shared. Also, your everyday life is being reorganised – work rhythms, responsibilities, health habits and what you can sustainably carry. You may feel called to simplify, delegate or create better systems. Support arrives from friends, mentors or a team that wants the best for you. Career or public plans may change quickly, so stay flexible with timelines and commitments. Your best move is practical, calm and consistent.

Libra (September 23 to October 22): Hear the volume rise regarding workload, routines and well-being. If you’ve been pushing through fatigue or living in constant “catch up,” something has to change now. A habit can end, a work pattern can shift, or you may finally commit to support that makes your life easier. Small, steady choices will have an outsized impact. Your creativity needs to be taken seriously – joy, romance, play and self-expression want more room. Public life is also heating up: ambition and leadership show up when you act from conviction. Expect surprises around plans for travel, study, publishing or a belief you’ve outgrown. Stay flexible, choosing the path that feels expansive and sustainable.

Scorpio (October 23 to November 21): This lunar eclipse spotlights love, creativity, pleasure and what you truly want to express. A situation involving dating, a passion project or romance and joy may reach a defining moment. It’s something that helps you to stop performing and start creating from the heart. If you’ve been holding back, this is where you take an honest risk and let yourself be seen. Additionally, home, family and your sense of belonging are guiding your next chapter. You could feel drawn to a different environment or a new way of living. Travel, study or a bigger goal strengthens your confidence. Yet, shared responsibilities can still bring surprises, so keep boundaries and expectations clear.

Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21): A turning point arrives in your home and family life. You may be ready to release an old emotional burden, change your living situation or redefine what “safe” feels like. If you’ve been carrying everyone else’s needs, this is where you reclaim your space. Expect more conversations, learning, writing or important decisions. Speak plainly because your voice has power now – the right words can open doors. Closeness and trust deepen when you’re brave enough to be honest about what you need. Expect unpredictability in partnerships: sudden changes in plans, shifting desires or surprising revelations. Stay steady, don’t rush and choose what supports real stability at home.

Capricorn (December 22 to January 19): An emotional turning point in communication: a conversation, decision or piece of news helps you name what you actually feel and need. Something you’ve been thinking about might need to be said out loud and once it is, your next step becomes clear. Priorities around money and self-worth are also evolving. Maybe adopt a smarter budget, ask for fair compensation or stop spending time on what doesn’t return value. Relationships are a major part of your story now. Supportive partners help, but you’ll need direct agreements rather than assumptions. Daily life can feel changeable, so keep your schedule flexible. Focus on steady habits that protect your energy.

Aquarius (January 20 to February 18): This eclipse highlights your finances and sense of worth. It’s time to stop undercharging, over giving or tying your confidence to someone else’s reaction. A payment, expense or decision about what you invest in can mark a clean turning point. Go ahead and step into a new version of yourself where your image and life direction need to be more authentic. Work and health routines benefit from emotionally intelligent action: protect your time, simplify commitments and create a flow you can sustain. Creativity and romance may surprise you too, bringing sudden inspiration or unexpected shifts in desire. Choose what feels energising and real, not just familiar.

Pisces (February 19 to March 20): This lunar eclipse lands right in your sense of self: identity, confidence and the way you move through the world. You may feel unusually sensitive or clear about what you can’t carry anymore. Let this be a reset – release the role, habit or expectation that no longer fits. A quieter ending is happening behind the scenes too. Rest, solitude and emotional healing aren’t optional right now; they’re the doorway to your next chapter. Love and creativity are energised so make space for play, romance or a personal passion project. Home life can bring surprises: shifting plans, sudden news or a change in your living situation. Keep it simple, stay grounded and choose the option that brings peace.
