Barack and Michelle Obama have already graced the covers of many publications.
Now their personal stories, set as memoirs, are set to be published too.
New York based publisher Penguin Random House won the coveted contract: a two-for-one deal.
In a statement dated February 28, and published on March 1, the statement says Penguin Random House is pleased to announce that it will publish forthcoming books for former President of the United States Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
The rest of the statement reads as follows:
“Penguin Random House CEO Markus Dohle announced today that the company has acquired world publication rights for two books, to be written byPresident and Mrs. Obama respectively.
“Terms of the agreement, in which the authors were represented by Robert Barnett and Deneen Howell of Williams & Connolly, were not disclosed.
“In support of the mission of The Obama Foundation and Penguin Random House’s own commitment to social responsibility, the company will donate one million books in the Obama family’s name to First Book, a longstanding Penguin Random House non-profit partner and the Washington, DC-based partner for the 2016 White House digital education initiative, Open eBooks.
“First Book is dedicated to promoting equal access to education by providing new books, learning materials, and other essentials to children in need in the United States and Canada.
“Consistent with their past practice, the Obamas also plan to donate a significant portion of their author proceeds to charity, including the Obama Foundation.
“Markus Dohle said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to continue our publishing partnership with President and Mrs. Obama. With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same. Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance’.”
