He has one of the most beautiful voices in the world, so it’s easy to see why famed singer Andrea Bocelli was chosen by Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank to sing at their lavish Windsor Castle wedding on Friday.
The legendary 60-year-old sent fans into a frenzy as he performed two emotionally poignant songs at the royal wedding, belting out ‘Ava Maria’ and ‘Panis Angelicus’ in front of a congregation of 850 friends and family, which included Her Majesty the Queen.
Bocelli was accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra for the powerful performances as fans rushed to social media to commend the singer for his “beautiful” and “outstanding” renditions.
One admirer wrote: “Listening to Andrea Bocelli singing at the #RoyalWedding2 is bringing me to absolute tears… simply stunning.” Another said: “Your singing was the highlight of the wedding for me. I’m not an admirer of the “royals” but the bride was beautiful and the groom was a delight to watch, so unstuffy.”
While another commented: “Beautiful couple. They are so genuinely suited. Eugenie looked just stunning in her beautiful classy wedding gown. Andrea Bocelli was, as expected, outstanding.”
Andrea also posted a poignant message to the newlywed couple on his Facebook page, in which he described being asked to perform at the ceremony, which took place at St George’s Chapel, as an honour and a privilege.
“Being present was a privilege, singing during the ceremony an honor,” he wrote (sic). “Dear Eugenie and Jack, in that intoned prayer I hope that our most affectionate and friendly embrace, addressed to you, newlyweds, and extended to all those present has ideally reached you.
“Thanks to the commitment and the intelligence of you both, the love will continue with unchanging warmth to warm your hearts and to enlighten your days, we toast to your love and your choice, so beautiful and courageous, to declare on the altar and in front of the entire world, your exciting project of life.”
Just weeks ago, Bocelli debuted a stunning duet with his son Matteo as the pair teamed up for a new track, showing the world their close bond in a sweet black and white video shared on the singer’s YouTube channel.
The iconic singer takes to the piano to accompany Matteo as he opens the song and the second his son starts to sing, Andrea’s pride is evident as he breaks in to a huge smile and continues to play beside him. Taking over for the next verse, he then shows off his own stunning vocals before the pair come together in amazing harmonies later in the tune.
