This house is straight out of a fairy tale

Have you ever loved a story so much you wanted to theme your entire house around it? People may have created a few Harry Potter– or Great Gatsby-inspired rooms over the years, but that’s nothing compared to this magical structure.

Think back on the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the Disney animated classic from 1937. Remember the seven dwarfs’ house? Well, this home in Washington looks pretty much exactly like that.

It’s not an exact reproduction and, built on 2,800 square feet, it’s surprisingly spacious, with four bedrooms suitable for Snow White-sized humans rather than the plethora of dwarfs from the story.

There are four-and-a-half bathrooms throughout, and it seems none of them comes with the Evil Queen’s magic mirror – take that as you will.

It also has a working modern kitchen, with stainless steel appliances and plenty of storage. There’s even a high-speed internet connection because, let’s face it, not all of us can get the local wildlife to deliver helpful messages when we need.

Those modern touches (including a hot tub) don’t detract from the fairy-tale charm, however; according to the listing on John L. Scott Real Estate, “there’s not a square corner anywhere” and every single door was hand-built “with extensive iron work”.

The dimensions may make furniture placement a bit of a challenge, but it’ll look a treat in the end. Image: John L. Scott Real Estate/Rick Ellis

“Wood beams were hand carved, stained glass windows are everywhere, and the walls appear to be more like a magical cave,” the listing continues.

Anyone who has a hint of whimsy about them will love the walk-through tree trunk near the staircase, which is the stuff of childhood dreams.

This is only the second time since the 1970s that this house has gone on the market, according to Top Ten Real Estate Deals; the original family who created the home moved away in 2005 and the current owners “continued the theme and continued to enhance the interior”.

The entire property consists of five acres, and is on the market for US$775,000. The listing and a cute video on YouTube suggest that the cottage would make for the perfect bed and breakfast or even a wedding venue fit for a fairy tale.
