Professor Tony Larkum has lived in the Sydney suburb of Glebe since 1969, according to an article on realestate.com.au.

Four years later, he and his wife moved to 17 Alexandra Road and they’ve lived there ever since.

Now it’s time for a change; Larkum is moving 100 metres away in an effort to downsize, which means the Alexandra Road property will be up for sale for the first time in 44 years.

Thanks to two lots of renovations in the ’90s, the family home exudes “the timeless elegance of early 1900s craftsmanship” combined with thoroughly modern living.

Gargantuan compared to other properties in the area, the Alexandra Road property features five bedrooms, three bathrooms and on-site parking (another rarity for the suburb).

The exterior is simple but spacious, with room to entertain family and friends, and an area to test your green thumb.

You’ll also find an external workshop, wine cellar and carport on the property.

Two of the four downstairs bedrooms are currently serving as spare living areas with “soaring decorative ceilings”.

There’s plenty of space for a fully dedicated music room.

One of the front bedrooms makes for a beautiful relaxed seating area complete with a beautiful fireplace to ward off the winter chill.

Another front bedroom is on a grand scale, worthy of master bedroom status in many other Glebe properties.

There’s a more central living area located just off the kitchen.

The kitchen itself is an ample size, with modern appliances and sleek but comfortable finishes.

Upstairs, you’ll find “a master retreat complete with adjoining bathroom, casual living and terrace” and an extra study nook.

Close to distinguished schools, public transport, Glebe Point Road and the Sydney CBD, 17 Alexandra Road might just have everything a Sydney buyer is looking for.

Based on data for the area, a house of this size and quality would likely sell for upwards of $3.5 million. 17 Alexandra Road will go to auction on Saturday, July 22.
