This soul classic is almost 50 years old!

Share:

Released under the Motown label in 1968, this track has gone on to be one of the most recognised soul tunes of the 20th century.

While this particular artist was already well known, this song earned him his first number one position on the US and UK Billboard charts.

The song was created in order to ‘out-funk’ popular soul singer Aretha Franklin. With a variety of funky organ melodies, upbeat string harmonies and soulful drumbeats, the song sure did give Aretha a run for her money.

Being so popular, the track has been re-released by other bands, including Creedence Clearwater Revival and Soultrans.

Can you guess the name of this song?
