Originally written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, became famous after Marvin Gaye recorded the single and released it in October 1968 via Motown’s Tamla label. It went on to become one of the biggest hit singles on the Motown’s Tamla label, sitting on the US Billboard Pop Singles chart for 7 weeks starting in December 1968.

In more recent times, Gaye’s recording of “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” was placed on the 2004 Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All time.
