Chic’s disco sensation tops the charts in 1978

Share:

This song was the band’s third track to be released and it helped launch Chic into worldwide success. The song scored number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and went platinum seven times across three different continents.

It was released in 1978 and is considered one of the best selling disco records of all time. As well, the single is the best selling record ever for Atlantic Records company; it achieved sales of seven million.

Another interesting fact is that the lyrics of the refrain were originally, “F*** off!” rather than “Freak out!”. They wrote the song about telling security bouncers at nightclubs to get lost.
