Well hello there! As seniors in our boomer bloomers, we can all agree it is important to be good to ourselves. Lots of us have aged, or are getting there to a stage of survival, looking after our families, geriatric parents, an ailing senior, grandchildren, and the pet department.
Some seniors are still busily stepping up to the plate, and do not have enough time to take care of their own health, or to be good to themselves. But, somehow, our own health does factor in our struggling less. Improving our daily wellbeing can improve the positive effects on our physical health, as well as on preserving positive mental attitudes. Don’t let obligations get to you!
We can all wake up to embed a cheerful disposition into daily resilience, which will improve our health outcomes. Caring for our own health is now a vital part of our ageing in a holistic manner. We can all aim to participate in preventative health check-ups, and recognise that some days we do need to rest and refresh our batteries.
We can do a bit of pampering, even if for a little while. We all need to find our purpose for the retirement years. Life and passing is what happens along the way, as the boomers head along to our sunset days on the planet. So each sunrise can be welcomed and is priceless. We seniors aspire to practice moderate exercise programs, depending on any physical or mobility concerns. Our personal emotional wellbeing is paramount too. We can all be aware of signs someone in the household can be sliding into anxiety or depressive conditions, sometimes this can be old age advancing. We can monitor ourselves as well.
Very few of us are professional counsellors. Some days someone can feel dragged down by being cast in that role. We listen to complaints, practice being a cheer squad for them, even being there with a kind smile can affect each other for the good. Never let them get to you! We can be our own personal cheer squad too. Tell yourself how well you are managing, being quietly satisfied when all is ship shape in the home, and you are still smiling! We can all lighten up the day with music, a joke, or a favourite dessert. Moods can be passing, any ongoing personal concerns might require professional support, such as from a trusted medico.
All of us seniors can also hope to do something we really enjoy daily. Personally, I am finding I am spending more time reading while resting in my book nook in the afternoon, and before I sleep. Enjoying reading novels and non-fiction books is now my favourite hobby. I follow new authors, as well as my regular writers. I love my two local libraries, on days I can walk that far.
Sometimes, I purchase inexpensive second-hand books from a city charity store and then share them with my friendship group, or donate them to another charity who collect them. The good folk there sell them and raise funds for sharing wellbeing in the community, for those who are struggling.
Do goods do feel good! There are lots of ways we boomers can share feel goods with each other, spending fun times with our platonic pals. I also have found self-massage is very relaxing, anyone can massage their hands or feet if we can reach them, and our shoulders. If possible, seniors can attend a massage centre. Or you might find someone to give you a massage.
It is also good for wellbeing to stay in touch, whether online or good old-fashioned phone calls or home visits. Yah! Online learning new things is popular or developing old hobbies with new ideas readily available as the digital world advances.
I guess some days we must focus on looking on the bright side. Each new day is an opportunity to build on our personal strengths and take opportunities to stay self-motivated. There are lots of ideas for boomers to be good to themselves. From little beginnings, we can all stay alive and kicking as long as possible!
