The ‘real reason’ Meghan Markle is ‘petrified’ of returning to the UK

While reflecting on his fight against the British press for the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, Prince Harry recently revealed why it is “dangerous” for his wife to return to the UK and why he doesn’t want to bring her back to his homeland.

After stepping away from her royal duties with her husband in 2020, Meghan Markle has rarely set foot on British soil while remaining largely estranged from her royal in-laws.

While some view her decision to avoid the UK as an insult, Harry considers it necessary.

“It’s still dangerous. And all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff, to act on what they have read,” he explained in the documentary.

“And whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is. And these are things that are a genuine concern for me.

“It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”

While Harry supports Meghan’s decision to stay away from the UK and is firmly against her return, royal commentator Rafe Heydel-Mankoo attributes her aversion to a lack of popularity in the UK rather than safety concerns.

“This is not about knives. This is not about acid. This is about Meghan’s fear of booing,” the royal expert told GB News.

“I think she is petrified that the great British public will vocalise their dislike of her. And I actually think now she’s become quite Britain-phobic.

“I don’t think she actually likes this country because of all the negative associations she has with it from her time living here. I don’t think she’s ever really fit into this country anyway.

“She’s a California girl, she’s not really part of that British upper crust that Prince Harry enjoys so much.

“I just don’t think she really wants to come down here because there was no reason she couldn’t have come for the Coronation.

“I think this is all scapegoating for the real reason that they can’t come over here.”

Since stepping away from their royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Harry have remained estranged from their family across the pond.

Adding to the tensions were revelations made in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where Harry and Meghan candidly discussed their struggles within the royal institution.

This was followed by the release of Harry’s candid memoir and a series of interviews in which he continued to criticise The Firm.
