I am so lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places in Australia. I live at altitude in a World Heritage-listed area surrounded by wilderness, something the busy city hubs just don’t have anymore. Spring is one of my absolute favourite times of year.
It is when my local community becomes excited, it is when our streets are most beautiful and it is when we show off our home to the world. I love living in the Blue Mountains. Every spring we get an influx of tourists. Some international, some just up from Sydney or down from Brisbane and the big secret is that many of us join in with the tourism excitement. And this is why…
There is so much to do in the Blue Mountains and there are so many sights to see at Scenic Wold in Katoomba.
The Scenic Walkway will show off one of the most incredible landscapes Australia has to offer. The elevated boardwalk meanders through ancient rainforest, offering visitors a safe and sustainable path through this pristine landscape towering with giant Manferns, Eucalypts and Sassafras. If you are lucky you might even see a Lyre Bird as they nest and breed in the area. The Walkway has three interconnecting tracks that are ten minutes, 30 minutes or an hour to complete so I love following the tourists around while I get some exercise almost every day.
Then when the grandkids come to visit, I adore taking them on the Scenic Railway into Jamison Valley because it is actually the world’s steepest. It is something that brings a smile to their face and if I’m being really honest with you all – I can’t help but wear a huge childlike smile too!
I also enjoy a ride on the Scenic Skyway every year during the morning when the sun is starting to shine and the mist is rolling through the valley. The views are simply breathtaking and no matter how many times I enjoy the Skyway trip, the Katoomba Falls, epic Jamison Valley, Mount Solitary and the iconic Three Sisters never cease to amaze me.
Scenic World offers good value passes for their full experience with Senior Discounts on offer and great value family packages for when the grandkids come to stay.
The Blue Mountains are a World Heritage listed area that has been preserved as one of the most natural places in Australia. I know that almost everyone loves his or her home, but I have to admit that I think I might love mine even more than anyone else.
There’s always new things happening and different attractions to visit. Right now we’re getting excited for the Leura Gardens Festival in early October. It’s the 50th anniversary and we will be showcasing the most beautiful gardens from around the area.
The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre always has fantastic exhibitions and showcases running. I’m particularly looking forward to having Brett Whiteley’s fantastic exhibition featuring his painting, sculpture and drawings, here from September through to November.
We have beautiful cafes dotted along the small towns and I can always guarantee a great food and the best views in the area the Terrace Café or EATS270 at Scenic World. I love to sit down, enjoy a coffee and just enjoy the excited buzz as people come to enjoy the place that I call home.
There’s nothing as fun as being a tourist in your own town, and I’m lucky that I happen to live in one of the most incredible tourist destinations in the world. So come and visit the Blue Mountains and you might just find me somewhere at Scenic World.
