Radio host Steve Price will reportedly not be returning to 2GB next year, with axed Today Show host Deborah Knight taking over the reins.

This is just the latest in a series of shake ups on the station by new owners Nine Entertainment.

Price was reportedly “sacked” after not being able to agree on his future with the radio business. In an email seen by Mumbrella, Nine’s radio boss Tom Malone told staff Price would be leaving the network as the two parties “could not agree on the best way forward for 2020”.

Meanwhile, Price told The Sydney Morning Herald: “I was doing afternoons. I was really pleased to get off the late-night shifts. I went into afternoons, in my view it was going really well.

“They wanted to take it into another direction and to go back to nights. I am not working at night, any night for anyone.”

The news comes as Macqaurie Media announced Knight will host the coveted afternoon time slot on 2GB and 4BC in 2020.

“I got my start in journalism behind the radio mic in Wagga Wagga, and I’m really excited about embarking on a new challenge with 2GB and 4BC,” she said in a statement.

“There’s nothing like radio for making an immediate connection with your audience, and Afternoons offers the chance to look at the big issues of the day and have some fun as well. And how lucky am I – I’ve got the best of both worlds – continuing with my TV role at Nine in both news and the Today Show. Bring on 2020!”

Darren Wick, Nine’s Director of News and Current Affairs, added: “We congratulate Deb as she undertakes this exciting new challenge. She has an incredible work ethic, is an outstanding interviewer and has a great sense of humour. She’ll smash radio out of the park. But she’ll also continue to play a significant role on Nine television with news reading duties in Sydney and will maintain a national profile as a regular fill-in and contributor for the Today Show.”

Last month Knight was also pushed out of her role as Today host alongside Georgie Gardener to make way for the return of Nine’s former golden boy Karl Stefanovic. Karl will lead the show alongside Allison Langdon with Nine confirming that the full cast of the show will be confirmed in due course.

The remaining Today team members including Tom Steinfort, Richard Wilkins and Brooke Boney will remain with the network.
