The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released a precious new photo of six-year-old Princess Charlotte to the world, and boy she’s grown up a lot.

In the photo, Charlotte can be seen cradling a brightly-coloured Red Admiral butterfly in her hands. The young royal is dressed casually in a light blue T-shirt and pink floral bottoms with her hair worn down around her face.

The new pic is part of the UK’s Big Butterfly Count initiative. The initiative is an effort by British charity Butterly Conservation to determine the health of the environment by asking people to count the number of butterflies they see.

“We wanted to share these beautiful Peacock and Red Admiral butterflies as part of Big #ButterflyCount initiative taking place across the UK,” Prince William and Catherine captioned the post.

“@savebutterflies are encouraging us all to count these incredible creatures because not only are they beautiful creatures to be around but they are also extremely important. Butterflies are vital parts of the ecosystem as both pollinators and components of the food chain.

“Hopefully you can beat last year’s total, @savebutterflies.”

Fans of the Charlotte’s were quick to comment on the sweet photo, with one writing: “Beautiful photos. Charlotte looks like a very caring young lady.”

Another added: “Princess Charlotte is so pretty!” While a third wrote: “So adorable and for a great cause!”

The new photo comes less than a month after Prince William and Catherine released a new photo of Prince George for his eighth birthday. The photo, taken by the duchess, showed the young prince posing in front of what appeared to be his late great-grandfather Prince Philip’s Land Rover. George, who’s smiling from ear to ear, is pictured wearing a navy and orange striped polo shirt and navy shorts.

“Turning eight(!) tomorrow,” the duke and duchess captioned the post at the time.
