Hell hath no fury like a mother scorned.
Sarah Ferguson has rushed to the defence of daughter Princess Eugenie after Daily Mail writer Jan Moir launched a shocking verbal attack on the young royal.
Moir wrote a scathing opinion piece for the British paper in which she claimed 28-year-old Eugenie and fiancé Jack Brooksbank weren’t entitled to a lavish wedding ceremony, and that although they were a lovely couple, Eugenie is about “as constitutionally important as one of the Queen’s corgis”.
In Moir’s opinion, someone who is only ninth in line to the thrown shouldn’t be entitled to the same royal luxuries as Prince Harry of Meghan Markle, who wed at St George’s Chapel in Windor, where Eugenie is set to walk down the aisle in October.
Moir asked “who the hell does Princess Eugenie think she is?” and took aim at her royal duties, claiming she enjoyed celebrity parties and making headlines for her fashion instead of distinguishing herself or winning the public’s affection.
Taking to Instagram, Fergie shared a letter Sarah Wade, the CEO and Co-founder of Humanitas Charity, of which the Duchess of York is a patron, wrote to the Daily Mail.
“I have read Jan Moir’s article on the plans of Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank featured in today’s Daily Mail, and I am appalled at the vitriol that is expressed in the piece,” the letter began.
Wade questioned the purpose of the feature and asked if it was to make a young couple feel embarrassed or ashamed of their wedding choices or to incite anger and hatred towards them.

“Either way, the outcome is negative and tantamount to bullying,” the letter continued. “The rhetoric is inflammatory and divisive, suggesting that the Princess has a hunger for glitz and glamour that is every bit as monstrous as Mother Fergie’s and making the ill-researched judgement that the princess has done ‘almost nothing of note’. I would like to raise into question whether Jan Moir has ever met or spent time with Princess Eugenie or whether the source of her malicious contempt for a 28-year-old woman is the result of years of unfounded and hurtful abuse that has been directed towards the Princess and her family by the Daily Mail.”

Wade concluded that it was important to support freedom of expression, but not when the intended outcome is to inflict pain or encourage others to do so.
Fergie’s followers were quick to rush to Princess Eugenie’s defence, too.
One person wrote: “I’m glad this was said. I read the article and thought, why shouldn’t this young woman have her dream wedding day? Good on you Mumma Bear, if it were my daughter I too would be furious.”
Another comment read: “What a horrible, mean-spirited article! That woman (whoever she is) seems like a miserable person.”
A third message added: “Hold your head up high. Hurts like hell when people attack our kids. You’re obviously a close family. Hug tighter and enjoy this special time planning.”
