Crown Princess Mary has marked a memorable occasion with her eldest son Prince Christian this week, sharing a sweet snap as he heads off to boarding school.

The photos were released on the Danish royals’ official Facebook page on Wednesday, showing a series of pictures including Crown Prince Frederik, 53, Princess Mary, 49, and their eldest child, Prince Christian, 15, at the Herlufsholm School.

In the caption of the post, the royals revealed it was Christian’s first day at the private boarding school which is located by the River Suså in Næstved, approximately 80 kilometres south of Copenhagen where the royals are based.

“His Royal Highness Prince Christian today moved into Herlufsholm’s dietary department in Næstved,” the translated post read.

“Tomorrow the Prince begins in high school, and today has been spent adjusting to the new surroundings and meeting the new schoolmates.”⁣

While the translated post reads “dietary department”, it’s understood it means boarding school where meals are provided.

The first picture was taken inside of the elaborate hallways of the new school, showing the grinning and eager young Prince, looking very dapper in his new school uniform.

The second snap showed the young prince standing with his dad Prince Frederik and mum Princess Mary in front of the school, and showed a striking father-son resemblance.

The mother-of-four looked as beautiful as ever, and proud as punch, wearing a navy and white floral dress. She paired the flowing piece with simple hoop earrings and delicate layered necklaces while wearing her dark tresses loose.

Crown Prince Frederik opted for a more laidback look with a casual checked shirt and day suit.

The final snap was taken in the same location, showing the slightly nervous looking young prince outside his new school.

The Herlufsholm School is regularly attended by Danish nobility and is the only school in Denmark that has a compulsory uniform.

While it was founded in 1565, this will be the first time a king-to-be has been enrolled in the school, with the young prince second in line to the throne after his father Crown Prince Frederik.
