Princess Charlene’s father has opened up about his daughter’s lengthy health battle, revealing Charlene is “very vulnerable” as she undergoes treatment in a Monaco medical facility.

Michael Wittstock spoke of his daughter’s condition to South Africa’s You magazine claiming he is certain she will recover, as rumours continue to swirl about what health ailments the royal is suffering from.

“Based on the way she used to train, I know she’s tough and will get through this and come out much stronger,” he said.

Charlene left for South Africa in May to support her South Africa Foundation’s wildlife protection work. After becoming unwell she was forced to stay in South Africa for further medical treatment. Her extended absence sent the rumour mill into overdrive with many speculating about marriage troubles between the Princess and her husband Prince Albert.

Stories of marriage troubles persisted when Prince Albert was photographed with actress Sharon Stone at the Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health and days later, when the Hollywood star was spotted alongside the royal at the No Time To Die premiere in Monaco.

“She didn’t leave Monaco in a huff!” insisted Prince Albert.

“She didn’t leave because she was mad at me or at anybody else. She was going down to South Africa to reassess her Foundation’s work down there and to take a little time off with her brother and some friends.

“It was only supposed to be a weeklong, 10-day maximum stay, and because she had this infection all these medical complications arose.”

Wittstock shared that he was unable to visit his daughter during her recovery but regularly spoke to her over the phone.

“I didn’t want to infect her either because she had so many medical interventions, she is very vulnerable,” he said.

Prince Albert told People magazine that his wife’s return “went pretty well in the first few hours, and then it became pretty evident that she was unwell”.
