Harry and Meghan’s lovely floral wedding tribute to Princess Diana

Share:

There was never any doubt Prince Harry would find a way to honour his mother on his wedding day, but his fitting tribute to her is something truly special.

The Palace announced on Sunday that British florist Philippa Craddock will design the flower arrangements for Harry’s wedding to American actress Meghan Markle, and there’s one flower in particular that will keep Diana’s memory alive on the special day: the white rose.

In its statement, the Palace said St George’s chapel will be filled with seasonal flowers and plants, including branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, as well as peonies, foxgloves and white garden roses.

The Royal Parks will also supply some pollinator-friendly plants from their wildflower meadows, which will be incorporated into the floral designs.

White flowers, and roses in particular, were known to be Diana’s favourite, and last year Harry and Prince William opened The White Garden at Kensington Palace in honour of their mother’s fondness for the stunning blooms.

The magnificent garden features white roses, lilies, gladioli and cosmos, and has splashes of colour with forget-me-nots and yellow tulips.

Harry, William and the Duchess of Cambridge all toured the garden when it opened, and were visibly moved by its peaceful and poignant display. Just over a year later, Harry and Meghan posed together at the garden for the fist time as an engaged couple.

The white roses aren’t the only way the prince will honour his mother on his wedding day. In a nod to Diana’s tireless charity work, Harry has also arranged for the flowers from the wedding to be distributed to charitable organisations the next day.

Craddock, who already supplies floral arrangements for Kensington Palace and many of London’s elite, said her designs for Harry and Meghan will “represent them as a couple”.

“I am excited and honoured to have been chosen by Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle to design and create their wedding flowers,” she said.

“Working with them has been an absolute pleasure. The process has been highly collaborative, free-flowing, creative and fun. The final designs will represent them as a couple, which I always aim to achieve in my work, with local sourcing, seasonality and sustainability being at the forefront.”
