Social media has erupted with calls for Prince Andrew’s head after the Duke of York’s alleged friend, Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in jail for the role she played in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of teenage girls.
Many people took to Twitter after Maxwell’s sentence was announced, to express their fury over authorities turning a blind eye to the disgraced Prince’s alleged involvement, claiming his royal status is granting him immunity from prosecution.
According to the New York Post, the lawyers of Maxwell and Epstein’s victims have called for the FBI to look into other alleged associates of the pair, naming the Prince as a “target”.
“Obviously, Andrew is one target they will be looking into,” lawyer Spencer Kuvin said.
“He should definitely be concerned, but … if he did nothing wrong, then come forward and tell the full story to the FBI, not the media.”
The Prince has mostly remained under the radar since sexual allegations saw him stripped of his military titles and royal patronage on January 13 and pay a $20 million settlement to accuser Virginia Roberts Guiffre.
A statement released by Buckingham Palace announced the decision regarding the Duke of York.
“With The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen,” the statement said.
“The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”
Maxwell was charged with sex trafficking shortly after Epstein was found dead in his jail cell while awaiting his own trial on sex-trafficking charges.
