Buckingham Palace have announced a baking competition in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with the winner being bestowed the privilege of creating the pudding recipe to be enjoyed as part of the celebration.

The Platinum Jubilee will celebrate 70 years since the Queen’s ascension to the throne. Queen Elizabeth is Britain’s longest-reigning monarch and the first to reach this milestone.

Launched by Big Jubilee Lunch and Fortnum & Mason, the Platinum Jubilee Pudding Competition invites all UK residents to design a desert dedicated to the Queen’s reign.

The announcement of the competition was made in a statement from Buckingham Palace and an Instagram post on The Royal Family’s official page with tips on how to create the perfect pudding and how to be in with a chance to win.

“To mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a nationwide competition has been launched to discover the perfect Platinum Pudding recipe, to be enjoyed at Big Jubilee Lunches and by generations to come,” the statement said.

“Five finalists will prepare their pudding for an expert judging panel including Dame Mary Berry, Monica Galetti and Buckingham Palace Head Chef Mark Flanaghan.”

The winner of the competition will have their recipe made available to the public, with the Platinum Pudding set to be enjoyed at Jubilee celebrations on the June Jubilee weekend.

On top of Platinum Jubilee preparations, it’s been a tumultuous time for Her Majesty. Following the passing of her beloved husband Prince Phillip, at the age of 99, on April 2021, the Queen has grappled with a series of health issues.

In mid-October 2021, the long-serving monarch had an overnight stay in hospital which forced her to slow down. She was given doctor’s orders to rest for two weeks, cancelling her trip to Northern Irelan. Her Majesty was also instructed to give up her late-night television bonanza, with The Times reporting, “she is knackered.”

In early November 2021, the Queen was seen with a walking cane for the first time in nearly 20 years, as she attended an event of thanks for the Royal British Legion.
