In a touching tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh, Australia Post has released a special postage stamp in honour of his incredible life and legacy.

The new stamp features a beautifully groomed Prince Philip posing dutifully as he dons the sash of the Order of the Elephant, which is regarded as Denmark’s most esteemed honour.

In a statement issued by Australia Post, the mass mailing company recognised Prince Phillip’s life and many achievements.

“Prince Philip visited Australia many times, firstly as a midshipman on the HMS Ramillies in 1940,” read the statement.

“His first official visit was with the Queen in 1954 and his last in 2011.”

Australia Post Group Philatelic Manager Michael Zsolt acknowledged Prince Philip’s awe-inspiring dedication to wilderness preservation and support of youth achievement.

“Prince Philip’s more than 60 years of official public life and significant philanthropy were remarkable, and through that charitable work and his visits to Australia over the decades he touched the lives of many Australians,” Zsolt said.

The special honour comes soon after Her Majesty the Queen received her own special postage stamps in honour of her milestone 70 years on the throne.

The exclusive stamps, designed by Sonia Young of the Australia Post Design Studio, depicted “portraits of the Queen from 1952 and 2019 to emphasise the longevity of her reign, with the designs also emphasising the colour platinum”.

One of the stamps portrayed a young Queen Elizabeth, taken in 1952 by the Crown’s first official royal photographer, Dorothy Wilding. The other stamp featured a more recent depiction of the Queen, featuring an image of Her Majesty attending an event to mark the centenary of British Airways in 2019.

More recently, Prince William was honoured with his very first solo commemorative coin released by The Royal Mint on Monday, May 23, in a special tribute to the Prince for his upcoming milestone 40th birthday this year on June 21.

The truly moving new stamp of Prince Philip is available for purchase at participating Post Offices and can be ordered via mail order on 1800 331 794 and via Australia Posts’ official website.

Prince Phillip was married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years, he was the longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch. He died peacefully at Windsor Castle in 2021, at the age of 99 from natural causes.

The Queen joined members of the Royal family on March 29 this year in a memorial service honouring her beloved husband Prince Philip at Westminster Abbey.

Approximately 1800 family members and guests were in attendance for the memorial.
