Relief for shoppers as major supermarket offers a price drop on everyday essentials

Aussies struggling with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis can now breathe a big sigh of relief after Woolworths announced a widespread seasonal price drop on various fresh and pantry items ahead of Spring.

As the weather begins to warm up, the supermarket giant announced it is slashing prices on their everyday essentials with more than 450 products in-store and online dropping in price, with reductions of up to 23 per cent on some family meal favourites.

As the warmer weather inspires more outdoor gatherings, Woolworths has lowered the prices on a range of family-favourite meats.

  • Champagne Leg Ham Sliced From The Deli was $23.50/ kg, now $20.00/kg .
  • Woolworths Beef Sizzle Schnitzel 400g was $12.00, now $10.00.
  • Woolworths Chicken RSPCA Approved Chicken Wings 1.38kg – 1.8kg was $9, now $7.

Prices have also been reduced on a variety of pantry essentials, household cleaning supplies, and personal care products, making it easier for customers to stock up on everyday necessities.

  • Dairy Farmers Thick & Creamy Blueberry Yoghurt 150g was $2.60, now $1.70.
  • Peters Maxibon Vanilla 4 Pack was $10.50, now $7.
  • Dettol Multipurpose Cleaner Surface Spray Disinfectant Citrus 750ml was $7, now $3.50.
  • Vaalia Kids Probiotic Yoghurt Pouch Vanilla 140g was $2.40, now $2.00.
  • Praise Dressings Thousand Island 330ml was $3.60, now $3.
  • McCain Beer Batter Steakhouse Chips 750g was $5.80, now $5.20.

Woolworths Chief Commercial Officer Paul Harker noted that shoppers are “looking for value more than ever before” and the supermarket’s price drop campaign gives them an opportunity to “better manage their budgets”.

“This spring we have more than 450 products dropping in price to help them better manage their budgets, especially as Australians reconnect more with family and friends over meals and occasions as the months warm up,” Harker said.

“In addition to our seasonal campaign, we’re also introducing a range of products at a Lower Shelf Price to provide customers with even more ways for their budget to go further for more sustained periods of time at Woolworths.

“All customers need to do is look out for the red Lower Shelf Price ticket in store and online to find the products that have had their shelf price lowered. We continue to work hard to provide customers with value when shopping with us.”

While the price cuts offer Aussies some relief from rising living costs, shoppers are finding clever ways to save at the checkout, such as choosing generic brands over more popular name brands.

Recent research from Compare the Market highlighted the growing trend, finding that nearly three-quarters of Australians have chosen the generic option over the more popular name brands during their weekly shop in the past 12 months.

Compare the Market’s study found that the generic version of items such as pasta, cheese, teabags and bread came in at half the price of the popular name brands.

“A lot of people are feeling the pinch and are looking for more ways to claw back cash,” Compare the Market spokesperson Phillip Portman explained to 9News.

“If you are willing to make that switch, there are savings there.”
