It’s been some time since Meghan Markle set foot on British soil. While some attribute this to her rift with the Royal Family, Prince Harry has recently revealed the real reason why he won’t bring Markle back to the UK.

Markle has been largely estranged from her royal in-laws since stepping away from her royal duties with her husband in 2020, meeting with the Royal Family only on a few rare occasions.

While some view her decision to distance herself as insulting, Harry sees it as necessary.

While opening up about his fight against the British press for the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, Harry reflected on why it is “dangerous” for his wife to return to the UK and why he won’t bring her back to his homeland.

“Look at what has happened in the last four years to me, my wife and my family, right?” he began.

“So that was a very hard decision for me to make, which is, how bad is it going to get?”

When asked if pursuing such high-profile legal battles only attracts more unwanted attention to him and his wife, Harry responded that the intense media scrutiny would exist regardless.

“There is more than enough attention on me and my wife anyway,” he said.

“There was… they pushed me too far. It got to a point where you’re damned if you do, you’re damned if you don’t.

“I don’t think there’s anybody else in the world that is better suited and placed to be able to see this through than myself.

“It’s still dangerous. And all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff, to act on what they have read.

“And whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is. And these are things that are a genuine concern for me.

“It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”

Following Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997, claims emerged that the beloved princess had feared her phone calls were being tapped.

While such claims have never been proven in court, Harry asserts that his mother “was absolutely right” to have had such concerns.

“You know, same with my mother. There is evidence to suggest that she was being hacked in the mid-1990s, probably one of the first people to be hacked and yet still today, the press, the tabloid press, very much enjoy painting her as being paranoid,” he said.

“But she wasn’t paranoid, she was absolutely right of what was happening to her. And she’s not around today to find out the truth.”
