Premier urges over-70s to stay home

The Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced that the regions of Brisbane and Moreton Bay will end their 4 day lockdown at 6pm today.  At the same time she has delivered a strong message to over-70s who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated to ‘stay home’.  Her message came a part of the rolling press conferences by premiers and health ministers on Saturday morning that is being watched throughout the country

Ms Palaszczuk has said repeatedly in her press conference at midday today over-70s should consider staying home if they are vulnerable or unvaccinated as the disease is clearly in the community and presents great risk to those in this age-group. She also urged people over-70 to seek out a vaccine.

‘If you are over-70 and a vulnerable member of your community please stay home,” said the Queensland Premier.

“Over 70% of vulnerable people over 70 have had their first dose of the vaccine but only 15% have had their second dose, which is because most are receiving Astra-Zeneca which requires 12 weeks between doses, said Dr Jeanette Young, QLD’s Chief Health Officer.  “People in this category should consider whether they should leave their home”

The Premier’s message carries a strong warning for our community here at Starts at 60.  We know more than a million people follow Starts at 60 and we know people here span all states of Australia so this message will go further than the Premier of Queensland telling her own constituents.

Should all over-70s in states with active exposure and community transmission heed this warning knowing the risks?
