New South Wales police have made a breakthrough in the William Tyrrell case, with The Daily Telegraph reporting police are now focussing on a person of interest who had previously been ruled out by detectives.

On September 12, 2014, the then three-year-old vanished without a trace from his foster grandmother’s home in Kendall, last seen playing with sister wearing a distinctive Spider-Man suit. Over the years, the family has never given up hope, with the Australian community rallying behind them in hopes he will be found or at least they will get some answers as to what happened that fateful day.

Now, a new investigation into the boy’s disappearance has uncovered fresh clues previously not explored. The Daily Telegraph reports NSW Police “have zeroed in on a new person of interest”.

“It shines a totally new complexion on what investigators believe happened to William,” a senior police officer told the publication.

The suspect will be interviewed soon and confronted with fresh details discovered by investigators.

Starts at 60 reached out to NSW Police, however they were unable to comment. “As the matter is subject to a Coronial Inquest and an ongoing investigation, it is not appropriate to comment at this time,” NSW Police said in a statement.

This Sunday will mark seven years since William disappeared. Following his five-year disappearance anniversary, his foster parents put out a moving statement.

Tomorrow marks five tragic years since William disappeared – five long years of unimaginable heartbreak and fear,” they wrote at the time. “Five years of unending sadness and tears. Five years without answers, of not knowing where William is or what has happened to him. And although we’ll mark five dark years of deep sadness and pain, we’ll also mark five years of hope that William will be found.

“We’ll mark five years of endless love for him from across Australia and around the world. Five years of the media continuing to remind the world that William is missing. Five years of determination and commitment by NSW Police Force to find William and five years of support from Crime Stoppers NSW who continue to wait for the call we hope will one day come.
