When it comes to dealing with grief or any mental illness one of the biggest hurdles is having the conversation with your family.
In a new video released by the Heads Together charity that Prince William, Princess Kate, and Prince Harry work on together, they open up about having the difficult conversations. In the six-minute video they talk candidly about parenthood, dealing with daily trauma, and the tragic death of their mother Princess Diana.
William says of parenthood, “When you have children, it really does put your own emotions and your own life into perspective and it has been very, very interesting understanding why I get so upset about some things, why some things affect me”. He adds, “I thought I was fairly straight down the line, but I feel quite a lot more than I used to.”
Kate adds that when you are a new parent “you have no idea what you’re doing no matter how many books you read – nothing can prepare you for it,” as well as admitting that it’s a “steep learning curve.”
When the topic comes around to dealing with grief, Prince William says, “We have been brought closer because of the circumstances. You are uniquely bonded because of what we’ve been through. But even Harry and I over the years have not talked enough about our mother”. Harry quickly adds, “Never enough.”
Harry shares his thoughts when dealing with the grief saying, “I always thought to myself, ‘what’s the point in bringing up the past?'”. He adds, “What’s the point in bringing up something that’s only going to make you sad, it ain’t going to change it, it ain’t going to bring her back. When you start thinking like that, it can be really damaging.”
What do you think of what they have to say? Do you agree?
