News presenter Michael Rowland has bid farewell to his “work wife” Virginia Trioli with a sweet message to the journalist on her last day with ABC’s News Breakfast.
Taking to social media on Friday morning the reporter reflected on their time on the program together and how much he will miss sitting beside her sharing the news each day. Posting a collection of snaps of the pair smiling and laughing together Rowland wished his colleague all the best for the future as she embarks on her new journey.
“This morning I farewelled my work wife of the last 9 years, @LaTrioli,” he wrote on Twitter. “I will miss her wit and penetrating intellect (and, yes, those eye rolls). There really never has been a dull moment. I wish her all the best in her radio adventures!”
Trioli made a joking response to her fellow journalist using a quote from a hit TV show she replied on Twitter: “To quote Friends – it’s not a divorce, we’re on a break! My work husband – thank you for everything (except the puns).”
Meanwhile, the much loved reporter also shared a short video of the two entering the studio for the last time together. The pair joked and laughed as they approached their seats, clearly making the most of their last show time reporting the news beside one another.
“Not a walk off – our last ever walk in!” Trioli wrote alongside the post. “Please join us for my final show – farewell to @BreakfastNews.”
However, Friday marks not only Trioli’s final day on the program but a celebration as she turns another year older. News Breakfast shared the news online with fans, posting a beautiful photo of the hosts smiling happily together.
“THIS IS IT!” the post on Twitter read. “@LaTrioli’s final day on News Breakfast has arrived (and it’s also her birthday!). Send some love and tune in.”
Fans were quick to comment with many taking to social media to share their sadness at seeing Trioli leave the program. The reporter is clearly loved by all with people across the world claiming how much they will miss watching the program with her in it as part of their morning ritual.
“You are both true journalists,” one person commented on Twitter. “You both make me smile and don’t tell me anything that makes me feel uncomfortable. Thank you for your service.”
Another added: “It’s a tough morning for all of you and all of us. Go well Virginia and welcome Lisa to the best news breakfast show on the planet.” While a third said: “Ah Virginia. You’re on of a kind. I’m gonna [sic] miss you on my tele [sic].”
