Renowned entertainer Liza Minnelli is set to put pen to paper for her upcoming memoir where she will detail her career, struggles with substance abuse, and love life.
Famous for her performances in 1972’s Cabaret, the television concert film Liza With A Z and 1977’s New York, New York, Minnelli revealed she is constantly approached to write about her stellar career and exciting life.
“Since I was old enough to put pencil to paper, people asked me to write books about my career, my life, my loves, my family,” she explained in a statement provided to People.
“Absolutely not. Tell it when I’m gone, was my philosophy.”
While she was initially hesitant, Minnelli revealed she was driven to write her memoir because she’s “mad as hell” about previous screen depictions of her life that “didn’t get it right”.
“Finally, I was mad as hell. Over dinner one night, I decided, it’s my own damn story, I’m going to share it with you because of all the love you’ve given me,” she said.
After Minnelli announced her upcoming memoir, fans couldn’t contain their excitement and flocked to social media to share their eagerness to read her story.
“Can’t wait to read. You are fabulous!” one wrote.
“I am waiting with breath that is bated. If you do a signing I’ll be the first in line. Congratulations!”
“You are an amazing woman. It would be nice to read about you from you. Your successes, triumphs, failures, thoughts, opinions, love, and friendships. Can’t wait,” commented another.
“This is the news we’ve waited for and needed!!”
The book written with the help of Great American Songbook ambassador Michael Feinstein, who has been friends with Minnelli for 40 years, will be released in 2026.
Minnelli is one of just 25 performers to win an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) and is the daughter of actress Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli.
Her most iconic role came from the 1972 film Cabaret, where she played the role of Sally Bowles. Her performance won her the Academy Award for Best Actress, and the film itself became a classic. Minelli has also achieved success on Broadway, notably in the musicals Flora the Red Menace and Liza’s at the Palace.
