Geoffrey Rush shares his thoughts on Johnny Depp’s dogs

Remember back in 2015 when Johnny Depp and his then girlfriend Amber Heard smuggled their dogs Pistol and Boo into Australia?

The case of Pistol and Boo cause quite the controversy, with Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce famously delivering the line “It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States.”

While we heard a lot about the case from plenty of different people, Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean co-stars remained silent – until now.

Legendary Aussie actor Geoffrey Rush, who stars alongside Depp in the film, has shared his thoughts on the Pistol and Boo saga.

“That was so blown up in the Australian press,” Rush said during an interview with AAP.

“I never met Boo and Pistol – nice names I thought.

“All I knew – the dogs were in a bag.”

You might be wondering if the drama with the dogs affected the filming of the movie?

Well, as Rush said, they just got on with the job.

“We were so busy with the scale of the storytelling,” Rush told AAP.

“These kind of huge, highly-funded films, it is not profligate.

“It is a military exercise making these films within a certain time frame.”

It’s interesting to hear the view of the saga from somebody else on the inside.

As many of you would recall, Depp himself hasn’t been afraid to speak out about it.

From his awkward apology video to the court case and his insult of Joyce as a “sweaty, big-gutted man”, Depp has drawn the ire of many Australians over what happened.

What do you think of what Geoffrey Rush had to say? Was the issue “blown-up” by the Aussie press?
