Just six days after the death of cricket legend Shane Warne, fittingly held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on the evening of March 30, 2022.

Warnie had a very special relationship with the MCG. “Born for the big occasion, he gave us irreplaceable MCG memories: The Ashes hat trick, his 700th wicket and calming Bay 13 in his trackies,” claimed the page dedicated to tributes for Shane Warne, on the Victorian Government website,

“Mr Warne’s performance on the pitch drew us to the game that he cared so deeply for,” continued the page. Warne was previously honoured for his sporting prowess in the form of a statue, at the MCG.

According to the government website, the public will be invited to attend Warnie’s service, either in person by way of registration on the website, or via live stream. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced that there will not be any capacity limits on crowds or “that sort of stuff”.

Andrews also shared that “it will be a very big event, it will be a celebration of his life as it should be.”

Warnie was a prolific social butterfly, and many of his celebrity mates are expected to attend the service, including international singing superstars Ed Sheeran, and Chris Martin. Sheeran posted a sweet tribute to Warne, following the news of his death, alongside their mutual friend and Australian music industry great Michael Gudinski.

Warne’s family all made tributes, with his daughter Summer also posting a very sweet, absolutely heartbreaking tribute to her late Dad.
