David Cassidy gave his final performance at the weekend.

Actor and singer David Cassidy has announced he is battling dementia.

The 1970s heartthrob told PEOPLE the disease runs in his family and that his grandfather and mother both passed away after a long struggle with the condition.

The revelation comes just days after Cassidy was seen slurring his words at a concert and falling over on stage.

He said that after watching his beloved family members pass away, he wasn’t surprised with his diagnosis.

“I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming,” he said.

He said he will stop touring from now on to focus on his health and living life to the full, despite his condition.

“I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions,” he said.

“I want to love. I want to enjoy life.”

Cassidy shot to fame in the 1970s for his starring role as Keith Partridge on the hit television show The Partridge Family.

He has struggled with addiction and had a number of run-ins with the law over the years, but says he’s committed to making the most of things following his diagnosis.
